About the Entry Level Certificates

The Entry Level certificates are designed to offer candidates an opportunity to show Entry Level achievement.Entry Level represents the first tier of the national qualifications framework. Achievement at entry level can be used to assist progression within the National Qualifications framework for example to GCSE or foundation GNVQ. It has been recognised that there is a need for qualifications at this level as a way of measuring achievements below GCSE grade G. Entry Level qualifications have been developed to correspond broadly to National Curriculum levels 1, 2 and 3. Given the on-demand nature of these qualifications they are particularly useful at providing candidates who might otherwise be excluded from opportunities for learning.

Benefits of Entry Level Certificates

  • AQA’s Entry level curriculum starts at basic level, not determined by age, therefore many of our students have the opportunity to change their attitude to education at a level they feel confident with. This promotes confidence in the student and the desire to succeed
  • The curriculum is practically based, teaching student how to use skills necessary for everyday life. The students find it easier to relate to this curriculum.
  • The curriculum can be extended in a variety of ways. So far the basic skills curriculum has been extended using some Key Stage course work material. This eases the students’ integration back into mainstream school and the national curriculum.

Since the curriculum is fluid, if a student shows the ability and compotence that student can move up to the next level.
